Dublin 8 Community Education Centre (D8CEC) was established in 1996 by Brother Brian Molloy. The Centre was established under the auspices of the Christian Brothers and, since we began, we have provided second-chance education to a large number of adults from Dublin 8 and further afield.
Until January 2004, we were located in the CBS Primary school on Francis Street. Due to an increase in pupil numbers in the CBS and the consequent demands on space, however, we re-located several times.
In 2014, we moved to a beautifully renovated three-storey building on Synge Street in Dublin 8. D8CEC is located at the back of the Christian Brothers’ house at No. 17 Synge Street.
D8CEC is a limited company with charitable status. Our core purpose is to provide second-chance education to adults in the community.
Our services are offered in a friendly, welcoming environment, where we take a holistic approach to lifelong learning and employability for life. We keep the leaner central to the learning process and keep up with the growing needs and demands of our local community.
D8CEC is a QQI quality-assured centre: our courses are nationally accredited and of a consistently high standard. They are available part-time and generally run from September to May.
Our courses are provided in the community for the community and as far as possible by suitably qualified members of the community. Indeed, many of our tutors have themselves completed courses at D8CEC in the past.
